Meet the Freixenet UK team

Working in the wine industry can be hard-work but it also has its perks. To better understand from those in the Freixenet world, we’ve roped in a little help from some of the team at Freixenet in the UK. From sales to content to marketing, we find out how they live wine.

Name: Mark Juggins

Role: National Account Manager

How did you get into your current job role?

After almost 9 years of being a buyer for major retailers, I decided to switch the other side of the fence and use my knowledge and experience to sell instead of buying.

What attracted you to Freixenet?

The chance to make a difference in a leaner, more focused but market leader environment. Almost everyone knows about the ‘black bottle’!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing our wines on the shelves of our customers and being enjoyed by many consumers.

What’s your favourite Freixenet sparkler?

Elyssia Gran Cuvee.

How would you pair it and for what occasion?

Simply great on its own to celebrate the start of the weekend!

Your perfect plan for the weekend?

Catching up with friends & family with a sneaky bit of football, always alongside some nice food & wine…

What’s your next holiday destination?

A late summer break to Southern Spain with a new addition to the family, a little baby girl or boy… to be confirmed!

Any perks in working for a wine company?

Tasting some great wines, travelling and working in an industry that most people are interested in outside of work.

And the best piece of advice you’d like to pass on when talking about wine…

To always remember that wine is about enjoyment, so quite simply keep trying different wines to find the ones you like.

Role: National Account Manager

How did you get into your current job role?

A recruiter asked me if I would be interested in working in the wine industry… That was a no brainer.

What attracted you to Freixenet?

Despite its size and success globally, Freixenet is still a family owned and run business. The company’s heritage dates back over 100 years and it’s great to be a part of that story.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing my hard work activated in store and people celebrating with Freixenet (drinking responsibly obviously…)

What’s your favourite Freixenet sparkler?

Cordon Negro.

How would you pair it and for what occasion?

Personally, with a good glug of Sloe or Damson Gin. This goes well with any occasion you are drinking (responsibly) out of doors. Especially when there’s a chill in the air (so all year round in the UK).

Your perfect plan for the weekend?

Wife, dog (Border terrier called Bear), friends, rugby, beer, travel, good food, great wine… not necessarily in that order.

What’s your next holiday destination?

As it stands, Croatia for some sailing.

Any perks in working for a wine company?

No, absolutely none. I don’t want everyone reading this getting in on all the great free wine, exotic travel and fantastic people.

And the best piece of advice you’d like to pass on when talking about wine…

“Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

How did you get into your current job role?

I was looking for a fun, interesting marketing role after university and discovered Freixenet.

What attracted you to Freixenet?

Wine is such a great product to market – who doesn’t like celebrating with wine! There is so much to learn about wine and I love that part of the job.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I love to see people enjoying Freixenet!! Discovering it for the first time or enjoying a glass with friends and family. It’s great to hear from our lovely Freixenet fans too!!

What’s your favourite Freixenet sparkler?

My favourite sparkler is the Elyssia Pinot Noir. It tastes like summer berries bottled up in an elegant bottle.

How would you pair it and for what occasion?

I would usually drink Elyssia without food but it is great with a few nibbles too.

Your perfect plan for the weekend?

I love catching up with friends or spending some time with my family at the weekend. Being a little bit of a shopaholic, I am not usually far away from the shops. A yummy brunch on a Saturday morning or discovering a great new restaurant in the evening is also usually part of a weekend plan.

What’s your next holiday destination?

I’m off for a sunshine weekend break to Venice in May. Very Excited!!!

Any perks in working for a wine company?

It goes without saying; tasting lots of different wine is great fun!! I also love attending some fab events and seeing our Freixenet wines being served. Winery trips to see Fx HQ in Spain (close to Barcelona) are always lots of fun too!

And the best piece of advice you’d like to pass on when talking about wine…

Try as many different grape varieties as you can. It’s great to discover new wines! Don’t let anyone tell you what you should like, we all have different palates and enjoy different wines.

Name: Carmen Beunza

Role: Content Manager

How did you get into your current job role?

I was looking for a marketing role in London that was creative. I applied and I remember for my second interview I was asked to present a 30 minutes presentation with a Digital Strategy proposal...I worked really hard and I guess they liked it since I got the job!

What attracted you to Freixenet?

I am Spanish and I grew up with the brand, so for me working for Freixenet was really exciting. Also, I believe the wine industry is a really interesting and social field to be involved with.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Sparkling wine is about celebrating and enjoying life and I find that really rewarding. My role is quite creative; I can be involved in a photoshoot, doing some photoshop work or interviewing somebody for the blog, so it's fun!

What’s your favourite Freixenet sparkler?

Difficult to choose! I like the Mia Moscato for summer days. The bottle is beautiful and the liquid is so good and easy to drink!

How would you pair it and for what occasion?

I would bring it to a dinner party outdoors as a gift. It just looks really stylish.

Your perfect plan for the weekend?

My perfect weeked would involve going to the cinema or to a gig - I love discovering new bands. Later I would go to have dinner or a drink. I love food markets and vintage fairs too!

What’s your next holiday destination?

Crete in June! And later on Spain to visit family and friends.

Any perks in working for a wine company?

Visiting Barcelona, tasting wine and being able to go to diverse cool events and partnerships!

And the best piece of advice you’d like to pass on when talking about wine…

Don't be overwhelmed by the variety of wines and brands. I am still learning too! Try different wines and trust your instinct.
