After their pop- up experience in Shoreditch, Swingers comes back in a permanent venue opening 27 May 2016 that is just a stone’s throw from the Gherkin in the heart of London.
With a 1920’s golf-club atmosphere set in the bucolic English countryside, the new venue will be bigger, and will include a Freixenet bar with some of our best sparklers and wines.
We chat with Matt Grech-Smith - one of the co-founders and co-MDs of the Institute of Competitive Socialising and Swingers - to step a bit further into the secret world of the crazy golf everybody is talking about...
What is competitive socialising?
Competitive socialising is competition with friends, ideally with a cocktail in one hand and some street food in the other. We believe that competitive socialising is the key to the most fun and memorable nights out.
How do you think Swingers encapsulates that?
Swingers takes competitive socialising to a new level with our two 9-hole crazy golf courses, where we will serve you cocktails and drinks as you play. You can then celebrate your win on the Freixenet podium before retiring to one of our 5 bars which can be found in our amazing two-storey clubhouse, street food area, Freixenet Bar and Gin Terrace.
Why the new Swingers is going to be bigger and better?
The new Swingers is in a different league to the pop-up. We have taken everything that was great about the pop-up and improved on it and made it better. For that reason we now have 2 golf courses instead of one, 5 bars instead of 2, an extra floor to our clubhouse and an extra street food vendor. The pop up was 7000 square feet, the new venue is 16000 square feet. Also this time around the venue is permanent, so we’re built to last!
What do we expect to see/drink/eat – dropping some hints…
We’ve got delicious burgers from Patty&Bun, Neapolitan pizzas from Pizza Pilgrims and gourmet kebabs from Le Bab - who have each created some unique dishes for our menu. We’ve also got a very exciting cocktail list that showcases some old classics, some innovative new drinks - and a few new ways to drink delicious Freixenet cava! (check the drinks menu here).
Tell us the most satisfying thing of working at Swingers
The most satisfying thing about working on Swingers is seeing how excited people get about it! People loved the pop-up and they are so excited to see the permanent site and have some fun. It’s great to work on a project that makes people so happy!
Why you decided to count with Freixenet in this new adventure
We wanted to work with Freixenet for a number of reasons, not least because their cava is delicious and goes with our street food really well. Freixenet are great at working with up-and-coming event brands and after they supported us so well at the pop-up, we definitely wanted them back with us in our permanent home!
